Isaiah 61:1

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.”

In a world where often dreams become shattered and torn Foundation 61 Inc. has come to the forefront to encourage and teach others that they too, “Can Reach and Follow their Dreams.”

Daniel and Rachel Reid of San Diego, California have done just that, they followed their dreams by starting Foundation 61 Inc. a Non-profit organization geared and focused on community outreach. Some of the events have featured parent and family forums, sports and dance competitions, music and outdoor concerts. They have been involved in children’s, youth work, and mentorship for over 37 years both in the community, orphanages, in schools and the local church. They have worked with many youth and children of every background, race and culture. It was during these events that they saw an evident and tremendous need for mentorship, encouragement and teaching among the children and youth, and thus this program was created.

Foundation 61 Inc. is very focused on teaching the children and youth to be the best that they can be and that they can achieve all that they dare to dream. Often at the events you will hear the words, “Dream Big. If you can dream it you can have it.” Many of America’s youth have strayed away in the on-going war of violence, drugs, gangs, hatred, and racism. That is not including the inner battles that they face each day with loneliness, fear and low self-esteem. “If we don’t give them the tools they need to help themselves, they may be lost in the sea of the unknown.”

Understanding that all people at one time or another go through their own personal challenges in life, “We have seen that there are many things that children and youth go through and never tell anyone. If there is no one there for them to encourage them through, they will easily give up when hard times come.” It became more evident now at this time that something had to be done. It was their desire to see parents, children and youth marching as one, bringing unity within their families and crossing all barriers of color, race and creed.

In a world of very few positive role models and insecurities in the children and youth of today the founders saw the urgent need to pioneer and start S.O.L.D.I.E.R.S. a faith-based Military Awards Program. “Throughout the conflicts that America has faced we have seen that our nation has been brought together not by war but by our need to stop it. Armies are brought together and are taught to endure hard times and the element of survival. As you know in the world that we live in today our children and youth will have to someday face those hard times and this program will be the foundation on which they will learn to how to stand and fight the good fight in there every day lives.” Foundation 61 Inc. has come into the forefront by giving them goals to reach by offering extra-curricular activities, sport and rewards to provide a sense of accomplishment and self-worth. Many families have been forever changed because of this vision.
